Jonathan Spicer

Jon studied at the College of law and qualified as a solicitor in 1973. He is a member of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association (LCSSA), Childcare Panel and the Law Society. Jon was one of the founders of JD Spicer & Co in 1977.
Jon has over 30 years experience dealing with a variety of legal cases and different fields of law. He has particular expertise in conveyancing and family and childcare proceedings.
Jon has also experience dealing with criminal proceedings at Court and is a Court Duty solicitor. Jon regularly represents clients at criminal proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court. He also has particular experience in dealing with child care hearings.

Philip Spicer

PPhilip qualified as a Solicitor in 1980 and heads our white collar and complex crime department. Philip is highly experienced in dealing with high profile complex and long running fraud matters invariably involving voluminous documents and multiple allegations.
He is the leader of a hand picked team of experienced and dedicated Fraud Lawyers defending cases involving allegations of: Cartel frauds, Boiler room frauds, MTIC frauds, Mortgage frauds, Banking frauds and Confiscation cases.
Philip, amongst other cases, has successfully represented a Defendant in an alleged price fixing cartel by various drug companies supplying the NHS. This is probably the largest and most complex fraud case to have been prosecuted recently by the S F O. He regularly acts for companies, directors, professionals including doctors, and finance sector throughout the country.

Umar Zeb

Umar started his training in 1995 and qualified as a solicitor in 1997. He holds the higher rights of audience certificate in respect of all criminal proceedings including the Crown Court. He has been a partner since 2000 and is head of our Police Station, Magistrate’s Court and Crown Court departments. He is a crime quality supervisor for the practice
Umar has conducted hundreds of fully contested trials and obtained acquittals in numerous difficult cases. He regularly appears before the local magistrate’s court conducting complicated bail and sentence hearings. Umar has experience of a very wide range of criminal cases including preparing and supervising complex casework such as Murder, Fraud and Terrorism cases.
Umar has been appointed a police station and court duty solicitor and has been conducting these duties for over 10 years.
Due to his vast experience he trains new lawyers in preparation and advocacy. Umar has trained many solicitors from the start through to their admission on the roll of solicitors.
Due to his enthusiasm and skills he has built a large and impressive client base including professionals. |
Kirit Khushal
Partner and Head of Personal Injury Department |
Kirit qualified in 1989 and has been a partner since 1990. He specialises in serious criminal and civil fraud cases. Kirit has been a duty solicitor for police stations and Magistrates Court for over 18 years. He has vast experience in preparing all types of criminal cases and is also a crime supervisor for the firm.
Kirit is also the head of the personal injury department and has extensive experience in serious personal injury claims for claimants arising out of accidents at work, road traffic accidents and claims against the public authority. Due to his vast experience he has also trained a number of trainee solicitors in accident cases. He has recovered damages on behalf of his clients in excess of one million pounds. Kirit is also a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers for more than 8 years. |
Simon Grove
Partner and Head of Family Law Department |
Simon studied for his law degree at Warwick and completed the legal practice course at the College of Law. He qualified as a solicitor in 1984. He has been a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel for about 20 years and specialises in childcare work. Simon has particular experience and expertise in advocacy in Family Proceedings, County and High courts. Simon regularly acts for both parents and children’s guardians.
Simon also has vast experience dealing with criminal law. He is a Duty solicitor for the Magistrates’ Court and Police Stations. Simon and many years experience as a Duty solicitor and is a member of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association (LCSSA). Simon specialises in criminal defence advocacy.

Sanjay qualified as a solicitor in 1996 he has been a duty solicitor for over 12 years. He has experience of criminal practice at specialist crime firms. He has extensive advocacy /complex case preparation experience in a wide ranger of matters including fraud, murder, and serious drug, violence offences. Sanjay heads our inhouse advocacy department consisting of over 10 advocates. Sanjay is repsonsible for training and monitoring of this growing department that deals with some of our most serious case work. |

Lisa joined the firm in 2004 and qualified in 2007. She is a duty solicitor and regularily conducts advocacy and trials. Due to her immense dedication to her clients and collegues she is a partner in the criminal department and supervises and is responsible for training new lawyers. lisa has been responsible for accrediting several new lawyers through to police station accreditation. Lisa has experience of a broad spectrum of criminal work including drugs, serious violence, and fraud work. Lisa is highly regarded by her growing client base. |
