Not Guilty Attempted Murder Basildon Crown Court - 2022

We acted for a defendant who was charged with attempted murder following an incident outside the Sugar Hut nightclub in Essex. The prosecution alleged that following a large scale fight our client deliberately drove an Audi Q7 over a man who had been knocked unconscious. He then fled the jurisdiction and arrested 4 years later. The offence was captured by clear CCTV evidence. Our client accepted being the driver at the time of the incident but denied that he ever saw the unconscious male on the floor. James O'Donnell thoroughly prepared the case and instructed leading Barrister George Carter Stephenson QC on a private basis. Following a full trial, our client was acquitted of the attempted murder allegations which could have resulted in a life sentence. Our client pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious injury. We also acted for other defendants in an earlier trial arising out of the same incident who were also acquitted of violence charges.
