S20 GBH against prison officer - acquitted Crown Court 2022

We represented a client who faced an allegation of causing Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH S.20) on a prison officer whilst in custody at a prison. The incident was captured on CCTV and clearly showed our client being attacked by a fellow inmate. In defending himself it is alleged our client punched a prison officer multiple times to the face causing him injury to his eye socket and nose.

Our client raised the defence of self defence. We were able to show that in the circumstances his actions were reasonable and proportionate. The jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty within 2 hours of deliberation.
