Wood Green Crown court Money laundering - discharge 2023
Wood Green Crown court Money laundering – conditional discharge 2023
Our female client was in a car with her partner. A third man approached the car and got in. The police then arrested all three. The third-party was in possession of a quantity of drugs in his backpack. Her boyfriend was the driver of the car. Our client was in possession of £11,000 cash. And she was charged with possession with intent to supply and with money laundering. After an initial period in custody, we were able to secure bail. Eventually, we negotiated a plea of guilty to money laundering only. We also negotiated a lower basis of plea. Had she been found guilty of both offences the Sentencing Guidelines indicate a custodial sentence. However, the judge was persuaded to give her a conditional discharge for 3 years, which means that after that period she could declare herself a person of good character for most purposes.
