Sexual Offence Solicitors
Have you been accused of a sexual offence? Is someone you know being held in a police station for questioning over a sexual allegation? Our experienced sexual offence solicitors can offer the best possible defence every step of the way.
Is the incident related to your professional work party/function or team members? We advise on sexual harassment at work-related criminal offences.
Being accused of a sexual offence can be a very humiliating experience and can have far-reaching consequences for your career and reputation. Our specialist sexual assault solicitors deal with these cases for clients from all walks of life.
Society’s view of these offenders is such that the presumption of being innocent until proven guilty often seems, in reality, to be reversed. Specialist sexual offences legal advice is therefore critical to ensure you are treated fairly and that your rights are protected.
As specialist sexual offence solicitors, we can work with digital experts such as Cyfor, an agency to build your defence. We work with leading providers within the digital forensics industry, primarily specialising in criminal defence investigations with a comprehensive range of proven digital forensic capabilities, including mobile phone forensics, computer forensics and cell site analysis.
Our solicitors for sex offences can also work with a private investigator if required. In some cases, private investigators may be able to uncover information and evidence not found by law enforcement officers and help solve the case. This includes using open-source tools, such as searching social media sites.
Our highly experienced sexual offence solicitors offer:
- 24/7 legal support in person and over the phone, 365 days a year
- Representation anywhere in England and Wales
- Accredited Police Station Representatives to support you during a police interview
Clear, effective legal advice in any language (see our languages spoken)

Our expertise with sexual offences
The severity of sexual offence allegations means that it is likely that the case will be heard at the Crown Court, with a high chance that you could be given a custodial prison sentence. Therefore, it is imperative you seek quality legal representation from the start of your case to give you the greatest chance of a favourable outcome.
The police will interview you and attempt to build a case. The advice you receive can make a difference to the outcome of your case. Can bad advice at the police station from a non-specialist help to get you charged? Sometimes, yes. You should not take chances with a non-specialist firm or lawyer. We will advise you if it is in your interest to answer no comment in the interview.
If you believe your case is likely to have serious consequences for you now, or in the future, and you have the means to pay for this service please read more about our bespoke private fee service.
At JD Spicer Zeb, our specialist sexual offence lawyers deal with sexual offences on a regular basis, having represented clients successfully in all manner of cases, whether at a police station or in court.
Our expert sexual offence lawyers at JD Spicer Zeb are ready and waiting to help you, protect your rights and secure a positive result.
Our sexual offence lawyers can provide 24-hour legal advice, ranging from police station assistance to trials at the Magistrates’ Courts and Crown Courts across the country.
Legal representation for sexual offences can be funded by legal aid and we would be happy to establish if your legal matter can be funded through legal aid.
Most of our work comes from repeat clients and word-of-mouth recommendations from clients and professionals, not online searches. We have been established for over 45 years.
We will analyse the evidence fully and give you an expert opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of your case. If instructed to do so, we can provide an enhanced service and prepare your defence from the outset by taking statements and gathering evidence in support of your defence.
Our sexual offence solicitors have acted for a wide range of clients in cases where false allegations have been made. We recognise the trauma such an allegation can cause you and we only provide specialist teams to work on these cases which are supervised by partners. We are trained to identify key weaknesses in cases. The government is committed to bringing higher conviction rates for sexual offences and rape.
In the government's end-to-end rape review report on findings and actions, it is asserted "perpetrators are to be investigated and prosecuted, so that those who commit these crimes feel the full force of the law". Read our blog to find out more about its impact on rape and sexual assault cases, but we see no support for those falsely accused of this crime from the authorities so your only recourse is having the best legal team to advise you on:
Our dedicated sexual offence solicitors promise to give you a clear informed opinion face to face and in writing. We will always advise you about early guilty plea options leading to a full credit sentence reduction in your case. These offences are too serious and using a very experienced solicitor and barrister can make a real difference to the outcome. We are expert sex offence lawyers similar to consultants in this area of law.
If we think we can persuade the police or CPS not to prosecute you, we will discuss the option of getting the case dropped earlier with you. The police and CPS cannot proceed with cases if there is no realistic prospect of a conviction or it is not in the public interest to prosecute you. We are experts at reminding them of this fact and will fight them to point out weak cases or where our client should not be prosecuted for good reasons.
Whether you have been accused of a sexual offence, been arrested, charged, released on bail or under investigation, our solicitors for sex offences can act in your defence, ensure your rights and interests are protected, and help you achieve the most favourable outcome possible in the circumstances.
How can we help?
Common questions
We always work with the most experienced and best leading UK barristers, KCs (Kings Counsel). We cover all criminal cases 24/7 at the police station and court. Offices in London, Birmingham, and Manchester cover cases across England and Wales. We can offer Legal Aid and affordable Private fee agreements. We can see you the same day, including virtually. Our Senior Partners supervise all of our cases.
How quickly do you respond?
We respond quickly even during out of hours. We do not get our work by paying for online adverts but based on the fact that few criminal law firms can match our 45 years of experience. Most of our cases are still from word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients. We are called daily by dissatisfied clients from firms with less experience than us. We respond very quickly to new enquiries. We know what clients seek and so we update clients rapidly.
Can you get cases dropped?
Yes, read about the recent cases we've helped our clients with here.
We always keep you updated and give straightforward advice. We will get cases dropped early where the case is weak or should not be prosecuted. We will be upfront with you about where you can benefit from a good result with an early guilty plea, such as a discount on your sentence. As we work on cases across all levels with clients from all walks of life, we are excellent at giving clear, spot-on advice. As an established firm, we can allocate a whole team to your case often at short notice to secure evidence to minimise the damage to you.
Have you won any awards?
OUR PROFESSIONAL BODY THE LAW SOCIETY AWARDED US IN OCTOBER 2020 WITH THE EXCELLENCE IN CLIENT SERVICE AWARD AND STATED -
"JD Spicer Zeb demonstrated a clear commitment to client service through their work with vulnerable and diverse individuals in what can be severely traumatic circumstances".

- Consequences of interfering with any witnesses.
- Retaining any evidence in support of your case.
- If possible an outline of the elements of the offence that the police or CPS must prove.

- If we do not intend to take the case on.
- Road Traffic cases, drink driving, drug driving, driving bans, speeding, no insurance, mobile phone use, points etc.

Sexual Harm Prevention Orders
A sexual harm prevention order can be applied for by the prosecution on conviction for certain sexual offences. Our sex crime solicitors are experts at ensuring that any order that is made is just and proportionate to the offence and facts alleged. We can advise you on SHPO orders at the outset.

Pre-charge bail
If you are interviewed by the police for a sexual offence, you may be released on pre-charge bail (also simply known as being released on bail).
When released on pre-charge bail, you will likely be subject to various bail conditions. Common conditions included as part of pre-charge bail often include restrictions on your movement or being required to visit the police station at designated times.

Fees and funding
When seeking sexual offences legal advice, we will always be clear and upfront about your options for fees and funding.
Legal Aid may be available in some cases, but this depends on the seriousness of the case and whether it will justify the grant of public funding.
If you do not qualify for Legal Aid, the alternative option is to fund the case on a private basis.

Common questions about sexual offences
What are sexual offences?
Many different acts can be considered sexual offences. These include non-consensual sexual activity, such as sexual assault and rape, as well as situations where one of the parties involved in the alleged sexual activity is unable to provide consent e.g. child sexual abuse. Exploitation of a person for sexual purposes is also a sexual offence.
Are sexual offences serious?
Sexual offences can have very serious consequences, including the potential for a substantial prison sentence on conviction. A sexual offence will generally be considered more serious where the harm or risk of harm to the alleged victim is significant and/or where threats of violence were used by the alleged perpetrator.
What is the sentencing for sexual offences?
The exact sentence for a sexual offence will depend on the circumstances of the case, including the harm experienced by the victim or victims, the culpability of the offender and any mitigating factors. Someone convicted of a sexual offence could potentially face a lengthy prison sentence, up to and including a life sentence. It is also likely that their name would be added to the Sex Offenders Register.
